A stroll through the woods has a way of jostling loose creative and contemplative juices within the mind.

And it is these moments when suddenly everything around becomes rather miraculous and in a way quite unbelievable.

Consider the fact that we were born as human beings, the most cognitively and emotionally advanced organism in the known universe

Mathematical odds:

One in four HUNDRED trillion. With a T.

Consider the modern obsession with money and the numbers associated with it. One person may think of one thousand dollars as a lot of money.

Another person is accustomed to dealing in millions.

Some actually deal in the billions, yet we apply our own meaning and value to each dollar and cent. Some of the worlds “richest” are the most miserable and miserly when it comes to finances.

A bit of perspective:

One million seconds is twelve days.

One billion seconds is thirty one years.

One trillion seconds is thirty one thousand six hundred eighty eight years.

Think bout that last one when referencing the odds of being born human (see above)

It is suggested that depression will be the second leading cause of global death by the year 2020 (that’s only three years away) trailing only disease of the heart.

Think about that for a moment… Is it time to come up with a resolution?

Hint: it isn’t medication.

There have been documented studies revealing that babies can literally DIE from lack of proper touch. That is, human skin to skin contact.

And in a way we have built a society devoid of genuine, non sexual physical contact with one another.

What if the electronic walls we have built is contributing to the “epidemic” at hand?

Below is my favorite poem. Enjoy.

The Human Touch

By: Spencer Michael Free

’Tis the human touch
in this world that counts,
The touch of your hand and mine,
Which means far more
to the fainting heart
Than shelter and bread and wine.
For shelter is gone
when the night is o’er,
And bread lasts only a day.
But the touch of the hand
And the sound of the voice
Sing on in the soul always.
